Endlich war er da, der 11. August mit der lange angekündigten Sonnenfinsternis.Wir hatten uns entschlossen, uns auf den Feldern oberhalb unseres Dorfes niederzulassen, von wo aus wir die ganze Rheinebene überblicken konnten. Als wir eintrafen, waren die Felder schon dicht besiedelt. Fahrzeuge aus vielen Gegenden Deutschlands standen auf den Wegen. Die Wetteraussichten waren gemischt - es war bedeckt mit einigen größeren Wolkenlücken. Finally the 11th of August came true, and with it the long expected total eclipse of the sun. We had selected the fields near our village as the best observation point. From there we had a good overview across the whole Rhine valley. When we arrived the fields were already full of people. Cars from many areas of Germany were parking around the tracks across the fields. The weather forecast was quite mixed - it was cloudy with major gaps.

Das Licht wird immer schwächer, nachdem der Mond mehr als 90 % von der Sonne bedeckt hat. The light is getting dim, while the moon covers more than 90 % of the sun. . Geheimnisvolles Licht in den gut 2 Minuten der Totalität. Leider hatte sich eine Wolke vor die Sonne geschoben, so dass wir nichts von der Korona sehen konnten. Mysterious light during the 2 minutes of totality. A cloud covered the sun during the totality period, so we could not watch the corona.
